Computer Teacher Ouoba visiting Monomtenga
The Peul/nomad village Monomtenga is currently experiencing joyful experience! The nomads have traditionally not put their children in school, due to the life on the move, and the need for the children to work hard as shepherds. Therefore they also made fun of Adama Diallo and her husband when they started to teach the children in the village, having their own little preschool in the shade of a braided grass wall.
Now, a couple of months later they have understood that this was not just a whim, but a true commitment.
The building of a classroom is the prove that has transformed “the dream into reality, and the games to seriousity.”
Here is some of the evidence of a true change:
1. The parents bring their children to the village Nakamtenga every Friday to participate at the computer classes we offer. In the beginning it was hard to get them to do that, but now each parent brings his or her child himself and without discussion!
2. The first time I went to visit Adama to encourage her in her work, I saw no parents at he side. But when I came to see the building of the new classroom there was a clear improvement. Directly three parents came to greet me. Everyone is expressing amazement, wondering, “is it a dream or a reality – A well-built school in our village MONOMTENGA??”
